The Mahkato Mdewakanton Association is a gathering of nations to celebrate and honor our traditions and ancestors; to reconcile and build bridges between all nations through education, storytelling, and sharing Dakota Indian culture
In the spirit of reconciliation, Mahkato Mdewakanton Association is committed to healing and enriching the experiences of Dakota and non-Dakota communities through the preservation and sharing of Dakota history, traditions and culture.
Due to the current pandemic and high level of uncertainty, the planning committee will continue to monitor and follow the CDC guidelines for large gatherings. We are moving ahead in our planning for an in-person powwow in Sept 2021! We hope to see all of our dancers, singers and visitors soon! Mark your calendars and stay safe & healthy!
In the event we do have to cancel, all information will be shared here and on our Facebook page.
In keeping with our theme of reconciliation, we welcome visitors and participants, native and non-native alike.
This page provides information about local accommodations, services as well as some guidelines regarding expectations of visitors and participants. It will also include a map and directions to Dakota Wokiksuye Makoce (Land of Memories Park).
The Mahkato Wacipi Powwow always needs help from volunteers. Volunteer tasks include parking, general security, grounds keeping, and runners/general help. Volunteers receive a free day's admission and the grateful appreciation of the Committee.
The goal of the Mahkato Mdewakanton Dakota Education Day Committee is to work collaboratively with Mdewakanton Dakota and non-Mdewakanton Dakota communities in the design, development and implementation of cultural educational programs and activities. Such programs and activities will be designed to promote positive relationships through increased awareness and understanding of Mdewakanton Dakota and non-Mdewakanton Dakota.
