2004 Wacipi

The Mahkato Mdewakanton Association's annual pot luck dinner will be held Saturday, January 17, 2004, at the Belgrade United Methodist Church, North Mankato, in the Fireside Room at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a hot dish, salad or dessert to share. Coffee and soft drinks will be furnished as will plates, cups and silverware (plastic, of course). We will discuss the past year and hold election of officers.

Come and enjoy an afternoon of good food and good fellowship.

See you then if not before.

2004 Wacipi - January Feast and Meeting

We held our January feast and meeting on Saturday, January 17, at the Belgrade Methodist Church in Mankato. The turnout was great! Lots of good food and we had a very successful meeting afterwards.

Officers were elected for the 2004 year. They are:

Leonard Wabasha-President
Bill Taylor, Glenn Wasicuna, Barb Turreen, Art Owen - Vice Presidents
Vicki Lockard-Secretary
Bob-Rolfes-Treasurer

We are having an ad hoc committee to review our bylaws and mission statement. They are to bring in revisions to be voted on during our March meeting.

We also discussed the idea of putting out a cookbook as a fundraiser. Judging from the delicious dishes that we had at the feast, there are some decent cooks in our midst. We will be talking about this idea at future meetings, so, if you have any suggestions, please let us know!!

There are a few events that are coming up that are of interest.

  • The Gustavus Adolphus Powwow will be held on February 26th at the St. Peter Fairgrounds.
  • Mankato State's Powwow will be on April 17th.
  • And, our very own Glenn Wasicuna is going to be teaching a Dakota Language class at Gustavus on 2/17, 2/19, 2/24, and 2/26 from 12:30-2:20 in the Interdisciplinary Studies course "Indigenous People Globally." Anyone from off campus who wishes to attend these sessions should contact Karen Larson for further information and registration as an auditor at klarson2@gac.edu.

Check out our website for updates on all of these events.

Our next meeting will be held on March 18, at 7:00 P.M. at the Snell Motors Community Room in Mankato. We'll have a map with directions on the website.

Hope to see you at the March meeting,

The March meeting of the Mahkato Mdewakanton Association was held on March 18 at the Snell Motors Community Center, in Mankato. Attendance was small, but we did discuss quite a bit of business.

The ad hoc committee to review and update our Articles of Incorporation reported and requests that you look over the information (included in seperate email), and if you have any edits, please return the updated version to the secretary no later than Saturday, March 17. The committee is meeting on the 28th to draft the final version. We really appreciate your help and input.

Our next meeting will be held on April 15, at the Snell Motors Community Center. There's a map on the web site.

Again, thank you for your input,

Vicki Lockard
secretary, Mahkato Mdewakanton Association
