September 4, 2003 Meeting

We had our last meeting before the Wacipi last night (September 4). I believe we also had record attendance for this meeting. A special thank you to Gustavus Adolphus for allowing us the use of the meeting room.

It looks like everything is in great shape for our event. All of the committee heads reported that they have their areas ready to go. We even have a waiting list for vendors!!!

One request. IF you are in camp, or can be, on Thursday, September 18, please take some time to help Bob Rolfes bring in all of the supplies and equipment. He'll be at the park Thursday morning.

We'll have our final meeting on Thursday, the 18th, at the park. We plan on starting at 7. As always, this meeting will be down at the kitchen area.

The countdown has begun!!!

May 2003 Meeting

The May meeting of the Mahkato Mdewakanton Association was held on Thursday, May 22 at the Campus Burger King in Mankato.

We had an excellent turnout and had some special guests.  Five representatives from Gustavus Adolphus College attended and offered their help with this year's Wacipi (we WILL be taking them up on it!!).

We also discussed the plans for this year.  Our committee heads are well on their way to having their areas under control.

Some good news!  We have sold out of the CD's.  Hamline University purchased 778 of them to include in educational packets that are going to schools all along the Mississippi River.  We'd like to add a special thanks to Dan Zielske for his hard work.

Our next meeting will be held on June 14 at the Lower Sioux Wacipi, in Morton, MN.  We will meet under the meal tent one hour after the afternoon Grand Entry.  We'd like to encourage you to try to attend this meeting.

Mahkato Mdewakanton Association
January 2003 Meeting

The first meeting of the Association was held this past Saturday, January 25, at the Belgrade United Methodist Church, in Mankato. For this meeting, we had a potluck dinner.

The 2003 Wacipi will be held September 19-21, 2003.

Our first order of business was to hold elections for the 2003 year. Our officers are:

Leonard Wabasha-President
Vicki Lockard-Secretary
Bob Rolfes-Treasurer

The position of Vice President is pending until we ask the nominee if he will accept the position.

Most of the meeting involved discussions about last year's Wacipi. We feel that last year was a success and want to thank everyone who helped out. Without you, we couldn't do this.

In the next few weeks, I will be sending letters to our committee heads to request help again this year. If anyone would like to work on a particular committee, please let me know.

Two items were discussed that we want to share with all of you.

First, the Oyate at SD State Penitentiary sent us a thank you letter for our raffle of their paintings. The proceeds from the raffle enabled them to get the seed money to make their crafts and arts.

Secondly, Cody Enoch is quite ill. I know that he would appreciate our prayers and well wishes.

Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 20, at the Campus Burger King in Mankato. We hope to see you there.
