Wacipi

2001 Wacipi Information
September 17 - Although the weather was not bright and sunny, no rain fell on any scheduled event. We had a good crowd throughout the weekend ... dancers, singers, and spectators. Another successful wacipi, thanks to all the hard work of the committee and many, many volunteers.

Danny Seaboy of Sisseton, SD served as Co-Emcee as Leroy Strong was unable to attend owing to a family committment.

In October, 2000, the committee met to discuss the recent wacipi and to elect officers for the coming year. It was generally felt that the recent pow-wow was very well attended and well received ... a great success. We elected the following officers: Leonard Wabasha, president; Bill Taylor, vice president; Vicki Lockard, secretary; and, Bob Rolfes, treasurer.

The committee is now meeting monthly to plan and prepare for the coming pow-wow. Even at this early stage, several important decisions have been made.

We have selected September 14 through 16, 2001, as the date for this year's wacipi. We intend to have two host drums and two invited drums. A Moccasin Game tournament will, again, be part of the celebration. The Education Day will be Friday, September 14.

Education Day: Friday, September 14

Pow-wow Times:

  • Friday, September 14, 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, September 15, 1:00 pm & 7:00 pm
  • Sunday, September 16, 1:00 pm
